A Look Back On 2016

A reflection of the past year…

00_dk_spring_2016_lineguide_2It was such a pleasure to start the year 2016 off shooting our Spring/Summer catalogue in my own neighbourhood of New Westminster.  I’m lucky to be living in such a picturesque area that has grown by leaps and bounds but still manages to keep that small community feeling. I love to visit the revitalised Quay at New West and the adjacent Pier Park where our shoot was filmed, it’s a great way to spend a weekend afternoon.

On a personal note,  at Spring break I was off to Tofino,  a wonderful BC destination.  It’s a place I’ve wanted to visit for so long and was thrilled to experience. I was up early at low tide to explore the shoreline, went whale watching, hiked the Wild Pacific trail and dined at a restaurant voted one of the top 10 in Canada, The Wolf and the Fog.  So many memories!

00_dk_fall_2016_lineguideFeeling recharged, I was back to work on my Fall/Winter collection which was inspired by the  eco-friendly city of Vancouver. My office is in the heart of East Van and I’m proud to be in this very creative part of the city. So much happens here!  So close to the inspiring architecture of downtown, it  gave me the inspiration to introduce some gorgeous embroidery into my collection. We had a blast shooting our catalogue for it, in a charming Gastown loft.

Over the course of the year, I’ve had a chance to write a bit more about my design inspirations and motivation for my fashion line. I invite you to read some of my favourite blog entries from this year…

Marine Building Details
I had a lot of fun in this blog, detailing my inspiration for 2016’s Fall/Winter collection. As I mentioned, it was an inspiring year full of Art Deco inspiration and adventures in embroidery design. I love how they turned out.

Addressing Plus Sizes

Tim Gunn is an incredibly astute and influential Fashion educator right now. Most well-known for his mentorship on the very popular show, “Project Runway”, he recently wrote a very honest opinion piece regarding Plus Size fashion and because of it, I wanted to address the topic in a blog as well, as it relates to my motivation to start my Diane Kennedy line from the very beginging.

Trusted Clothes

Earlier this year, I was honoured to be approached by Trusted Clothes, a social media outlet dedicated to showcasing Eco/Ethical Fashion, to do an interview. One of my proudest achievements is to design and manufacture my collections in my own country in an ethical and responsible way.
