Bamboo fabric is luxuriously soft and temperature regulating on the body making it extremely comfortable to wear. This was our original inspiration for using organic bamboo for our designs. As demand grows for the health and wellness of our planet, using eco-friendly fabrics has become a movement rather than just a trend. Our super soft Viscose knit is made from Certified Organic bamboo fibers and is much better for the environment than conventional cotton, as it’s grown without chemicals or extra water and is completely sustainable.
Did you know bamboo is 100% naturally grown, without assistance from man? A highly sustainable crop, bamboo does not require the use of pesticides and herbicides for crop production. As a result, plantations can easily be kept organic. Additionally, as the plant is flood and drought resistant, so water irrigation is not necessary for production. Bamboo plantations require very little maintenance.
Bamboo is one of the world’s most sustainable resources. A resilient plant, bamboo grows to its maximum height in about three months and reaches maturity in three to four years. As the fastest growing plant in the world, it spreads rapidly across large areas of land. This makes it a high yield renewable resource. The canes can grow to over a metre or more per day!
We purchase our bamboo fabric from a mill in Canada, which uses hydro-electricity, and green energy. The natural flow of water in rivers offers kinetic power that can be transformed into usable energy. To produce hydroelectricity, the water flow is directed at the blades of a turbine, making it spin, which causes an electrical generator connected to the turbine to spin as well. This generates electricity. Our supplier uses a combination of hydroelectricity and natural gas, which is used to heat the boilers that heats the water used to dye the fabric. In contrast, fabric made in China uses coal to fuel factories which causes so much pollution it can be seen from satellite photos.
Bamboo is a natural cellulose fiber and is 100% biodegradable in soil by micro-organisms and sunlight. The decomposition process does not cause any pollution in the environment. If you have worn our bamboo clothing, you’ll already know that it is naturally soft and drapes like silk or satin. It’s naturally smooth fiber properties are non-irritating to the skin, and it is thermal regulating, ensuring that you are warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Also bamboo fibers are great for sensitive skin because the fibers are smooth. These temperature regulating properties are excellent for those going through menopause. An added benefit is that it is anti-bacterial; it contains a naturally occurring anti-microbial agent that prevents bacteria from cultivating on it, helping to keep odor away.
Created by nature and returned to nature, bamboo is the ultimate eco-fabric!
