Yes you can! Stripes done the right way are flattering and always on trend. Nothing says Spring and Summer like a Navy Stripe tunic with white jeans or leggings and a floppy hat, or espadrilles. It seems that, every Spring, fashion editors are talking about stripes on the runway and marching right into shops for Spring. The thing about stripes is that they never really go out of style.
One of the first fashion rules you probably remember hearing is that horizontal stripes make you look wider. And, that can be true. However, it depends on two things: how the stripe runs on the garment and the width of the stripe. A horizontal stripe, paired with a stripe cut on the bias (like in our Clipper Tunic or Mod Tunic styles), can be very flattering and accentuate the curve of your body. A smaller stripe, like the one in our Starboard Tee, is also much more flattering than a very wide stripe. The Starboard Tee has the lines going in every direction, breaking up your figure in the sleekest way. If you are trying to accentuate your assets, then wear your stripes on that part of the body. For example, our Striped Tunics accentuate the upper body rather than the lower body. If you’re very small on the lower half, then a stripe pattern can work as a pant or legging, but then pair it with solid top like our Mod Tunic in Black.
Another great thing about stripes is that they can be dressed up or down! A top like our Starboard Tee can be worn with a maxi skirt and sandals for an evening out… or leggings and a denim jacket on top for something more casual. Striped tops can be considered almost like a neutral backdrop for statement jewelry; a bold necklace either long or short paired against a stripe adds a little dimension and texture.
Have you added some stripes to your wardrobe for this Spring?
