The last couple of seasons I’ve been designing jackets and tunics with metal zippers in an antique pewter tone. We put out new designs every season and I’ve been hearing customers requests for more hardware details, like zippers. I’m happy to oblige; I just love that touch of edginess it gives any look. For this Spring/Summer season, we’ve got a cute zip-up I’m calling The Adventure Jacket. My inspiration for this design came from the idea of a Safari, but I interpreted it for modern living. I like to think of it as the perfect jacket for an urban adventure. It’s got plenty of style; enough for the office or the weekend!
I just love the features we’ve built into this jacket. The V neck and princess seams provide a slimming silhouette while the ample pockets give you room to drop your keys and cell phone in if you need to run a quick errand. I finished the 3/4 sleeves with cuffs (another little nod to Safaris), but what gives this jacket that sense of adventure is the zippers on the sleeve. This unique detail not only looks cool, it feels cool (thanks to zipper-assisted ventilation)! Wear one of our Perfect Tops underneath and see how lovely that little pop of contrast and colour looks underneath. Complete your look with our breezy Rhythm Gauchos.
But of course, there are endless possibilities with my line! There’s never only one way to wear our pieces…here’s how I like to style the Adventure Jacket:

Diane is wearing Adventure Jacket in Olive, Perfect Top in Olive Tie-Dye & Deck Tights in Olive

All this talk about zippers reminded me of something interesting that happened recently. This past weekend, we opened up our studio for customers who aren’t able to make an appointment. A fellow and his wife came in to try some items on. I’ve often noticed that men waiting for their wives like to have a peek into our back warehouse. Upon having his gander, this gentleman happened to notice our very large stack of YKK boxes.
He asked me, “…so you really use the real YKK zippers and not some cheap knock-off?”
Gently surprised, I told him “Yes, of course! We only use YKK zips because they’re the best quality. How can you make a quality garment from cheap components?”
This short exchange just reminded me of what a shame it is that using cheap materials has become such a commonality in the Apparel industry these days. I personally would not want to produce a piece that sacrifices quality for the bottom line. Even something as simple as a zipper…
…But I digress!
I hope you found some great outfit ideas in this post. A little Inspo (and opinion!) straight from the designer. 🙂
