Tips & Tricks for Dressing Your Arms

Ever since puberty I’ve had a love-hate relationship with my body. I don’t worry about covering up acne anymore but camouflaging my upper arms is definitely a priority. If you’re like me and love fashion but are concerned about your wobbly arms then look no further…this is the article for you!

Tips for fabulous arms

What’s a girl to do when you don’t have arms like Michelle Obama? My first recommendation is to find a great shrug. When choosing a shrug it is important to keep a few things in mind. First, consider the length of the garment’s sleeves. Are the sleeves covering the area of your arms that you’re concerned about? Second, check to see what material the garment is made of. I personally prefer natural fabrics (like alpaca, cashmere, bamboo, cotton, hemp, linen, silk and wool). Now, try and be impartial here and remember that proper fit is so much more important than a number on a tag.

Covering your arms while staying cool and comfortable is one of the summer season’s major fashion challenges. Regardless, a shawl can be a great way to beat the heat while keeping your arms covered. However, if you are going to drape your arms in material make sure the fabric is fabulous. Half sleeve cardigans are a great solution too! Try one in a lightweight linen knit over a summer dress. Another favorite of mine is the peasant blouse. A cotton peasant blouse with three-quarter length sleeves and a V-neck is appropriate for the beach or office.

For any season a three-quarter length sleeve tunic can disguise wobbly arms. Choose dresses or tops with fluted sleeves or floating cuffs to balance your upper arms. Also, off the shoulder or asymmetric tops are more slimming as they show off a greater amount of skin around the shoulder area.

Most importantly, good posture and confidence add wonders to any outfit. Hunched shoulders and slouching is not attractive. Good posture will elongate not only your arms but your whole body. So stand up straight with your head held high because you should be proud of how amazing you look.

What not to do

When trying to camouflage your arms it is important to know what not to do just as much as knowing what to do. Avoid cap or short sleeves that cut across the largest part of your upper arm. You would be better off wearing a sleeveless dress because the horizontal line that a cap or short sleeve creates will draw unwanted attention to your arms. Also, avoid sleeves that are too tight! Too tight sleeves might make your arms feel secure and slim but, trust me, they won’t look that way. Also on the don’t list: puff-sleeves and horizontal stripes.

Well ladies, now you have all the tips and tricks necessary to put together an amazing outfit that will make you feel comfortable & confident! Happy shopping!
